We're praying that the treatments will totally eradicate the cancer and that Rob and his wife Peggy and their family won’t have to fight the terrible battle with cancer and that they will enjoy a long and happy life together, spreading hope for others with cancer. |

| 1/16/12 | Jeff Rubelmann Shari Furman just called and requested prayer for her brother, Jeff Rubelmann. She said he just emailed his wife, Mindy, (Shari's sister-in-law) and said that he was leaving forever. They have been having marital problems. Jeff has had struggles with depression and has had suicidal tendencies in the past. He has been on medication for the depression but when he begins feeling better he stops taking it. He and his wife, Mindy, have talked about divorce and separating with him possibly moving in with his parents or getting a new place to live, but this email to his wife just came out of the blue. |

The past two days were long and didn't go quite as smoothly as
planned... We reviewed the pathology reports with my surgeon
yesterday which raised some questions about the completeness of
my surgery because much of the specimen removed from my left side
was not thyroid tissue, but thymus tissue. This tissue did in fact
have thyroid cancer cells, so it did need to come out, but this
caused my surgeon to question if in fact he removed all of my thyroid
gland. I had an ultrasound following my appointment which found some
tissue in the left side, however there is no way to know with just
ultrasound if it was thyroid tissue or scar tissue. Obviously, this
was unexpected and we had thought the visit with my surgeon was
going to be a short "Wow you look wonderful visit!" Right now
there are just lots of stuff we don't know. One point my oncologist
Dr. Ain raised was that most people who have been through total
body radiation and a bone marrow transplant no longer have a
thymus gland, which raises more questions to the accuracy of
the pathology of the tumor specimens. Dr. Valentino said he
plans to go over the pathology report with another pathologist
and the ultrasound with other drs. and get back to us next week. I also had voice therapy yesterday, as my voice continues to be weak. This included a scope of my vocal cords to see how they are currently functioning when I breathe/speak. I guess my right vocal cord is slow to react and my vocal cords don't close completely. There were many tests/exercises they had me do, many of which were difficult on me emotionally because my "singing voice" doesn't sound like me. However, Dr. Valentino was pleased at how well they were functioning just three weeks post surgery and believes it should continue recover. Praise God. I met with Dr. Ain on Thursday who laid out a plan for my next treatments with the prep beginning on Sunday with me changing my medicine. So clearly, we need to get these questions sorted out and determine how this will impact my upcoming treatment which is scheduled for late February but takes a six week prep of my body. Please pray for wisdom for my Drs. as they try to make sense of this confusing information and for my family and me as we play the waiting game. God is good all the time...and all the time God is good. 12/28/2011 Cara had surgery and the report was good. Cara was talking and doing well almost immediately after her surgery. Her church asked her to speak about her surgery and she blessed all that heard her story. 11/26/11 Cara will be meeting with her doctors on December1, They will be making a decision on what treatment they are to take for Cara's Thyroid cancer. Please continue to pray for Cara as she waits for the news on which direction her treatment will take. 10/24/2011 = Thank you everyone who has prayed. I know many of you have been waiting for an update. Last Friday, my parents and I went to the University of Louisville Cancer Center for a second opinion on the next step for my treatment. IU has previously said that another risky surgery is the necessary next step and haven't really presented me with any other recommendations. (The risks involved include permanent damage to my trachea, laryngeal nerves and vocal cords.) So I decided to see if U of L. would have the same treatment options before I made my decision. My experience in Louisville was very different than that I have had at IU. Everyone was very compassionate and genuine. I felt at ease there. The medical team at the cancer center uses a multidisciplinary approach so I met with several Drs. in the same clinic and they held a conference to discuss/determine what my best tx. option would be. Their recommendations differed from those made by IU. They emphasized taking into account my quality of life, especially at my young age. The radiation oncologist said "We have to think about more than getting rid of the tumor, we have to think about Cara."The surgeon said he did not recommend the surgery and said if he proceeded it would be a "radical" surgery with the possibility of permanent damage and changes to my life. My mom asked the Dr. if it was his daughter if he would have the surgery and he said no. (He's the father of 3 girls.) The radiation oncologist said he has not given up on the radioiodine treatment though it had not previously proved to be effective during my last treatment. He said we have proof that my body takes up the iodine, but we just need to build up to a higher dose. He suggested a stairstep approach where we will start with a smaller dose, increasing each tx. with shorter periods of time between them. (3 months vs. 6 months). He said he also knows of a thyroid cancer specialist at the University of Kentucky who he was going to contact because I am a particularly unique and challenging case. I go back in two weeks for tests and to further develop a plan. By that time he will have heard from the Dr. at UK. Please keep praying. Thanks! Cara 09/29/2011
We received word last evening concerning the results of Cara'stests....
Cara advised us that her thyroid and cancer condition remains as it was after her last surgery. Her doctor said that they would study the results and call her back with their recommendation for treatment.
Cara Thomas (Indiana) is asking for prayer as she will be having tests performed Thursday to determine what is needed and can be done regarding her health and the thyroid issues. Your prayer is greatly appreciated.
Cara is scheduled to have two shots, one on April 20 and one on April 21. That will be done on outpatient basis. Then on April 22 she will enter the hospital and take a pill. We don't know how long she will be there but they will monitor her and then she goes home and will be in isolation for a period of time. She was told that in 6 months they would perform tests to determine the results of the treatment. Cara Thomas - IN - Diagnosed with cancer of thyroid; recently had surgery to remove the tumor and thyroid; could only remove half of the thyroid and tumor since the tumor had attached itself to a nerve related to her vocal chords. Awaiting doctor's report and course of treatment to remove the remaining tumor and thyroid. Cara completes her graduate studies in May a Masters in Social Work. Daughter of Tim and Lori Thomas. Wendy has been on the list for prayer due to pregnancy complications update is: Roman Charles Sanders was born 1/5/2012 six weeks early. He weighed 5 lb 6 oz and is currently in the NICU at Boone Hospital in Columbia. He was taken off oxygen yesterday and the doctors are very pleased with his condition upon his arrival and his improvement in the last 24 hours. He should remain in the NICU for 7-10 days. Please keep Roman in your prayers as well as Chris and Wendy and their 2 year old, Josiah. |

The family is asking for prayers that her heart will start to mend and she find strength in God Norma's son-n-law found out he has prostate cancer yesterday. The family is requesting prayers that the cancer will be totally removed with surgery. |

| 11/26/11 | Wayne Marsh MO (FBCE Member) Please let the class know that Wayne Marsh had a terrible biking accident last night, and fractured a bone in his hip. He is at Missouri Baptist and will have surgery tomorrow morning around 7:30. His pain is only bad if he moves. Please pray that the blood vessels are still intact, so he will have a quicker recovery and not need a hip replacement. If all goes well, he can go home the middle of the week, but if not, he will have to go to a rehab facility to recover. Remember this special friend. Pray that surgery will go well and that recovery time will be minimal. |

Prayer Requested for Tonya in Columbia MO Lisa Burris, our daughter in Springfield IL and a partner in prayer is requesting prayer for her friend, Tonya, who lives in Columbia MO with her three children. She has a bacterial infection in the mussel of her leg and doctors are considering the issue extremely critical. Tests continue to be run to determine its cause and a possible treatment. She has been diagnosed with a severe bacterial infection in her leg. This evening it has been decided that she be airlifted to Barnes Hospital and I understand she is in route. She has three children, one daughter and two sons as I understand. I will forward info after being there, to let you know her status and progress. She is a friend of our daughter Lisa Burris in Springfield IL.Please pray for Tonya and her family during this critical time in their lives. Also pray for the doctors who are treating her. |

As a result, Dan is in the process of getting her back to St Louis. Sylvia has been living with cancer since the first of the year. Request prayer for her and Dan as they continue to deal with the issues surrounding Sylvia and her illness. They are close friends of Jan and Carl Stephan |

| 11/22/11 | Loraine Bastunas, Chris Bastunas, and Carolyn Zenselmeir. Loraine and Chris are Carolyn's aunt and cousin MO Loraine unexpectedly passed out Wednesday this week. She is having an EKG and the Doctors may have to adjust her pacemaker. Chris is battling cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. My Prayer is for The Lord's healing hands reach out and touch both Loraine and Chris. May He give them peace, comfort, and the courage they need to battle their illness. My Prayer for Carolyn is for The Lord to give her courage and strength, guide her as she deals with her aunt's and cousin's trials. Pray that The Lord keeps her strong and focused and let her feel God's presence as she deals with this situation. |

Today my best friend got terrible news. One of her very close friends found out that his family wouldn't be able to survive on the income they currently make. He is one of her very best friends and has been since he moved here. She was at my house to sleepover when she got this news. I tried to comfort here as best I could, but the only thing I was able to think of was to give her my prayer book to write in. She had never believed in God before and told me so. But nonetheless, she wrote a prayer to God. After she finished, she started to cry and told me that she believed. Jesus touched her heart in that moment, I know it. Please can you pray for her to get to know Jesus better and to be strong during this time and for her friend's life to get better, I will be helping her as best I can, but I feel like it won’'t be enough. Thank you. |

| 11/07/11 | Carolyn Boelter 2011 has not been the best year for Todd and I! We unfortunately received some more bad news last week...my cancer has returned. It has spread to the lungs, but is manageable with treatments. I start chemo next week and will receive weekly treatments for 3 weeks and 1 week off for the next 6 months. And the doctor said the side effects are less then last time around so that helps! Please pray that our Lord will strengthen and encourage Carolyn and Todd and that He cover you with His grace and love as you face this battle. |

Yvonne is having marital problems with her husband due to emotional abuse. Pray for her husband deliverance from abusive behavior (physiological, mental, physical, and emotional. The abusive behavior has been going on for years. Pray that both obtain Christian counseling. Margarita, my Christian sister who is praying for the whole family and dealing with different problems and issues. Pray for her children (Jessica, Carmen, Manuel, Jahaira, Josue, and Tony), her husband Victor, and her grandchildren and sons in law.
